The Real ID act is just pandering

This started out being a comment to Guy at Snugg Harbor but it is morphing into a post.

I think that the best way to control our borders is through another way. We do not need a fence or a National ID like Riverdog wants to see. The easiest way is to remove the incentive for crossing illegally in the first place, streamline the way to getting a green card, make it more cost effective to get a greencard, and arrest anyone who is caught employing illegals.

I have been beside friends who have dealt with the issues of getting a greencard. If you are not a lawyer, you cannot keep up with the constantly evolving American immigration laws. There is supposed to be a 6 month limit on how long it takes to receive a green card. It takes more than 2 years in most cases, often costing twice as much as it should. There is so much misinformation out there dealing with immigration, upto and including the Immigration interviewers themselves, that people end up getting screwed. So now, they are out 1200 bucks (more than likely more) and they are still illegal. You cannot expect to support yourself during that time and it puts immigrants in a hole when they get here.

So, what is the immigrant to do? He finds a company that will work him to the bone for peanuts and pays him under the table. This pay is not taxed, therefore the Gov't is not getting it's share to pay for things that the illegals use (schools, healthcare, etc) and it leaches the system. So, if those employers are held accountable for hiring illegals, then the illegal would be worse off, but the country would be better off.

So, how do we fix this? We do not Racist Vincente Fox's approval. We can do this quietly by enforcing the old rules. If someone is found, by ANY law enforcement Agency, to be employing Illegals, then the business is fined HEAVILY (I would say 100,000 bucks for each worker) that would go directly to the local school system. Do not pass go, do not collect 200 dollars. Each of the Illegals would then be given the paperwork to make themselves legal. IF the paperwork is not filed within 5 working days, then deportation hearings would take place and the person would be deported no questions asked.

The real ID act is nothing more than posturing to the base. I am part of the base that they are commenting to. I think that they are way off base and need to look at the real problem.

I agree, but I hate the same thing about the military that you do. We are not a social experiment nor a place to give job training to people with no language or any other skills.

We can still put people into the military with a green card. The only difference is that on the security info, the person can only go up to a classified clearance instead of a secret for a full citizen.

The citizenship process is streamlined now for all green card holders in the military. It is even free! All they have to do is serve 2 years and put in the paperwork! That is a great program. I use that as a sell for my hispanic applicants.
