Standing up for Terri Schaivo

More news from the Schaivo front. I hope that the court gets its head out of its anus and think. This man is obviously just trying to kill his wife. He has already tried once according to some credible doctors (read: abuse) and now he is just trying to finish the job. I do not like to think that the courts of Florida are as stupid as they are, but this one is definitely making the argument.

I hope the parents get her divorced. This asshat does not deserve a penny from the insurance. Does anyone know if they have State Farm for life insurance? If so, does anyone know a State Farm adjuster in Bloomington? I bet that would end all of this silliness.

If I want to die under similar circumstances, should I be allowed to die?

Posted by Blogger Carl Nyberg @ 10:44 AM, March 07, 2005

In a word: no. If you were in a similar circumstance you would:

a. have a spouse who has a fiancee and two children with her.

b. have no living will nor anyone else who has heard you say that you would want to be starved/dehydrated to death?

c. have a spouse who is under suspicion of causing the issue you are disabled with?

d. Have a spouse who is standing to gain financially with you dying of natural causes?

e. have a family that is paying for your care thereby not causing you any heartache other than the loss of financial gain after death.

f. Have a spouse that will not allow your family to come in and visit you any longer even during the dying process.

g. have a spouse that is going against your familie's wishes to bury you just to piss them off and not give them anything.

If you are in a similar situation Carl, I pray for your soul and your families soul.

Say I told my family and friends I did not want to be kept alive if I was severely mentally incapacitated with no reaonable chance of recovery.

Do I have a right to this decision? Or doew society have a right to make it for me?

Posted by Blogger Carl Nyberg @ 8:56 PM, March 07, 2005

In that case, yes. The difference is that more than one person knows of your wishes and intentions.

Society does not have a right to get inbetween your wishes and that wish coming true. However, if your wishes are not promulgated among your family and friends, then the society part comes in.

If you are in a complete veggie state with no chance of recovering, then yes, you have a right to die. But, in the same breath, you could easily be misdiagnosed like Sarah Scantlin. Yes there is a difference in how they came into the vegetative state, but it could still happen.

My last comment for tonight will be this thought.

a. What level of communication/ action would you need, personally, to make you believe that you (in this case) would want to be considered a Vegetable?

b. Would you want to be starved to death? Die of thirst?

Men and women get thrown in jail everyday for starving and dehydrating their dogs. Is that really something you would condone?
